Flying High: Detroit Style

Detroit likes anything that goes fast and makes a lot of noise. Exhibit 1: Yesterday’s hydroplane race on the Detroit river. Navy F-18 flyover thrilled thousands of race-day spectators along the riverfront. Probably not quite as much as it thrilled the residents of this riverfront apartment building along the course.hydroplane races Hope none of them were trying to sleep in.

PS: Not photoshopped

Update: here's a video if you want to watch it. Notice the (visible) shock wave forming - he came mighty close to breaking the sound barrier.

  1. No biggie, he MISSED the building :-) Those were fun at sea, crank that puppy up as fast as it would go and as low as you had to balls to go and blow by the carrier! You lost points if you were above the flight deck (95 ft)... sigh...

  3. I was at an airshow on an Air Force base in LA a few years ago and we sat at the end of the runway. During the show, the Blue Angels performed. They flew directly over our heads - it was AWESOME! Scary, too. It was like you could reach up and touch them. Like watching really good fireworks, we oooh'd and aaaah'd the whole time.
