Slowly but surely they awake. I, too, decried Bush's spending and I hated it when he said "I'm the decider." He sounded so egotistical. I take back the hating the decider part. We kept saying it "couldn't get any worse than Bush". Well, the spending is still a sore spot but my God, in comparison to whatever this is we have now, the Bushes epitomize style, intelligence and patriotism. Laura Bush is lovely, well dressed and a great role model for American women; GWB, while I still have doubts about financial wheeling and dealing, no one can claim he doesn't love the USA. That goes for Cheney too...(Yikes, I really have been reborn). I'd take him back in a minute if it could happen.
I do agree that Rummy (like McNamara was in Viet Nam) was the biggest problem with Iraq from the get go.

Once a staunch Republican, I now consider both candidates before deciding. I knew on 9-11 that I had made the right choice.

Like you, Dewey, I was frustrated by Bush's fiscal irresponsibility. He was an amature compared to Obama, however. Bush's spending was mere chump change.

I blame Rumsfeld for failing to allow the military to secure the peace in Iraq. I disagreed with going into Iraq in the first place and I believe that's why the situation in Afghanistan is what it is today.

Whether you agreed with him or not, Bush was decisive. He made the choices he believed were right no matter the push-back or media fallout.

And Bush was a Soldier's President. That's why he and Laura went to Fort Hood. Obama doesn't hold a candle to this.

This reminds me of the most honest liberal dyed-in-the-wool Democrat I've ever known (and a teacher of high school government classes). He pointed out to us snot-nosed kids that Nixon - hated, creepy Nixon - did more for Civil Rights than JFK and his brother Bobby combined.

No doubt a case of end-of-week web fatigue. We've all had it.

But yes, Bush' fiscal irresponsibility left me apoplectic, and who can't second guess his war strategy? But when it came to national security he was a rock. I don't expect or require that presidents be perfect, but I don't like having to question their underlying motivation. It causes me to lose sleep, and when that happens there's no living with me.

I miss Bush. He was far from perfect and he still occasionally says a few things that irk me but, wow, was he light years ahead of this national nightmare.
